After Mnuchin’s Testimony, Tax March Renews Calls on Chairman Neal to Request Trump’s Tax Returns

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Earlier today, while testifying before Congress, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin once again dodged questions about disclosing Trump’s tax returns upon request from the House Ways and Means Committee Chairman. Following a line of questioning from Congressman Lloyd Doggett about Trump’s tax returns, Secretary Mnuchin said:

“First of all, I haven’t received the request. If you have the request for me today I’m happy to accept it…I can’t speculate on the request until I see it…

“We will examine it and we will follow the law. I’m not aware if there’s ever been a request for an elected official’s tax return, but we will follow the law and we will protect the president as we would protect any individual taxpayer under their rights.”

In response to his testimony,  Tax March spokesperson Ryan Thomas released the following statement:

“Secretary Mnuchin claimed he would follow the law if he receives a written request from Chairman Neal to turn over President Trump’s tax returns—and we hope that he will be true to his word.

“Once again, the ball is in Chairman Neal’s court. He needs to take immediate action. The American people deserve answers to the troubling questions raised about Trump’s conflicts of interest and dubious finances—and there is simply no reason for Chairman Neal to continue slow-walking the process.”
