MILLION MEMBER TAX MARCH COALITION TO U.S. SENATE: “FOUR TRILLION DOLLARS. NOT ONE PENNY LESS.”

MILLION MEMBER TAX MARCH COALITION TO U.S. SENATE: “FOUR TRILLION DOLLARS. NOT ONE PENNY LESS.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Now that it’s clear Democrats will control the White House and both chambers of Congress, the national tax and economic justice movement demands a fundamental restructuring of our economy. In response to Senator-Elect Warnock winning his Georgia Senate runoff, and Jon Ossoff being the apparent winner, Tax March is calling for Democrats to make real investments in America’s working families.

Tax March released the following statement from Executive Director Maura Quint

“The runoff election results in Georgia are welcome news for the millions of Americans who have lived through years of Trump and McConnell-led economic policies that intentionally transferred wealth to the rich and powerful at the expense of the rest of us. In the last year alone, the Republican mismanagement of the pandemic and intentional neglect of those suffering has forced millions of families into poverty, all while America’s 651 billionaires added over a $1 trillion to their wealth. Voters have spoken, they want real change.

“With Chuck Schumer replacing Mitch McConnell as Senate Majority Leader and President-elect Biden taking office later this month, we have a simple demand: Pass at least $4 trillion dollars in COVID stimulus to end the pandemic and revive our economy. Because of the inaction of Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell over the last year, millions of American families have fallen into poverty, and until the virus is under control we need real relief that will keep us afloat while we keep our families safe.

“We cannot wait. The time for action is now.”
