Progressive Groups Demand Chairman Neal Subpoena Trump’s Tax Returns, Hold Mnuchin in Contempt of Congress

NEW YORK — Following reports that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has once again failed to meet the deadline for providing House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal with Trump’s tax returns, Stand Up America and Tax March issued the following joint statement:

“The Trump administration will stop at nothing to shield a president who has something to hide—and Secretary Mnuchin’s refusal to comply with the law shows the lengths to which administration officials will go to obscure the truth.

“This blatant affront to the rule of law cannot go unanswered. Chairman Neal has no choice but to subpoena Trump’s personal and business tax returns and, if the stonewalling continues, hold Secretary Mnuchin in contempt of Congress for illegally shielding the returns.

“The American people can and will hold Donald Trump and the corrupt officials in his administration accountable—no one, not even the President, is above the law.”
