State of the Union is Key Opportunity for President Biden to Hold Corporations Accountable for Inflation
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tonight, President Biden will deliver his first State of the Union address, during which he will talk about the country’s progress in recovering from the economic shock of the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the continued challenges of inflation and rising costs for families. Despite record job creation and GDP growth, many Americans are not feeling the economic recovery — in part because corporations are using this opportunity to raise prices and pad their bottom line. Tonight is an opportunity for President Biden to call out pandemic profiteering and price gouging and place the blame for inflation with the corporations that are making record profits while everyday Americans foot the bill.
Tax March Campaign Director Sarah Baron issued the following statement:
“President Biden has taken a number of important steps towards fighting inflation, including bold action to address concentration in meat processing and oil and gas. Tonight’s speech represents an opportunity to further call out corporate bad actors and hold them accountable for their role in inflation. The fact of the matter is corporate greed has been a key driver of rising costs, and new polling shows that four in five voters are concerned about large corporations raising prices and causing inflation. We are looking forward to hearing President Biden stand with everyday Americans against greedy corporations and price gougers.”
