Tax The Rich Campaign Hits the Road for Nationwide Bus Tour This Summer
The 19-State Tour Aims to Elevate the Harmful Effects of the 2017 GOP Tax Law and Empower Americans to Join the Movement to #TaxtheRich
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Tax March announced that its latest campaign, Tax theRich, is embarking upon a nationwide bus tour this summer to tell the truth about the harmful effects of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and empower local elected officials, activists and national organizations to demand the rich and corporations pay their fair share.
The “2019 Tax the Rich Bus Tour” will include nearly 40 events in 19 states and Washington, D.C. over the course of 35 days. The tour will launch right before the first democratic presidential debate with a press conference in Miami on June 26th and end in Detroit on July 30th, right before the second democratic presidential debate.
“Americans overwhelmingly believe that the wealthiest individuals and corporations must pay their fair share. As presidential candidates enter the field and begin debating how they’ll strengthen the economy, it is imperative that each articulate to the American people their vision for a fair tax system that helps everyone, not just the wealthy few and well-connected,” said Maura Quint, executive director of Tax March. “During our Tax the Richbus tour, Tax March will elevate the voices of American workers and families by showcasing the harmful effects of the 2017 GOP tax bill and insisting that every candidate running for president include repealing the disastrous TCJA and making the wealthy pay their fair share in their platform. The rich can no longer be allowed to hoard resources and prosperity. We do not have to serve the interests of the wealthy at the rest of the country’s expense, and we will continue advocating tirelessly, from state to state, to create an economy that works for all of us, and not just the privileged few.”
Earlier this year, Tax March launched the Tax the Rich campaign in an effort to educate the American people and policymakers about the economic need to tax the rich, and to advocate for raising taxes on the wealthiest individuals and corporations. The campaign has been joined by regional and national partners including Americans for Tax Fairness, Indivisible, Public Citizen, National Women’s Law Center, Take on Wall Street, and Patriotic Millionaires.
Recent polling shows that a majority of Americans support taxing the rich. In fact, 75 percent of likely 2020 voters, across party lines, support taxing the rich, including 90 percent of Democrats, 70 percent of Independents, and 60 percent of Republicans.
The Tax the Rich Bus Tour will stop in 19 states including Florida, North Carolina, Maine, Iowa, Colorado, Pennsylvania, New York, and end in Detroit, MI.
