Tax March Statement on the Passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tonight, Tax March released the following statement from Tax March Executive Director Maura Quint on the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg:
“We are heartbroken to learn of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s passing this evening. Justice Ginsburg was a courageous fighter for middle and working class Americans, and a tireless advocate for equal protection under the law. Her contributions to our nation are unparalleled, and women like her have inspired the spirit that we bring to Tax March: one of tenacity, courage and a commitment to justice. She is already dearly missed.
“In her memory, we are calling on the Senate to honor her stated wish before her death, that her seat on the court should not be filled before a new president is installed. Mitch McConnell set just that precedent with his “McConnell rule” in 2016, and by any standard of decency, both he and the president should honor it. This is the moment, in honor of Justice Ginsburg’s legacy, to let the people decide.”
