Tax March Tells Congress to Ignore Corporate Lobbying, Stand Firm on the $3.5 Trillion Budget Reconciliation Package

WASHINGTON, DC — A new report in the Washington Post this morning says corporate America is ramping up their fight against working people in favor of the wealthy and well-connected by launching tens of millions of dollars in ads targeting the Democrats’ $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation package. Groups that represent big pharma, big banks, big tech, and big oil, many of which paid no federal taxes in recent years, are lobbying to block increases to the corporate tax rate, investments in American families, and efforts to lower drug prices.

Tax March Executive Director Maura Quint responded:

“As workers across the country are still struggling to meet the basic needs of their families, corporations are showing exactly what their priorities are. These multi-million dollar companies have plenty of money to spend as long as it’s to fight to get themselves a free ride on the backs of the American people—and Republican politicians are standing with them. Congress has an extremely clear choice: pass the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation package and tax the rich to pay for it, or side with corporate elitists whose only interest is in making themselves richer. The Democrats’ budget bill would help lift millions out of poverty, and would rebalance the tax code by making the rich pay their fair share, which is a winning issue with every voting block, even in Republican battleground districts.

The question is simple: Will Congress cave to corporate interests and the super rich, or do the right (and popular) thing by delivering for voters and passing the $3.5 trillion budget deal that will help everyday Americans?”
