With More Than 500,000 Lives Lost to COVID, Congress Must Deliver Full, Fast & Fair Relief Now
WASHINGTON, D.C. — One year into the COVID-19 pandemic, Americans have lost half a million of our friends, neighbors, and family members. Millions more have been left with the lifelong side effects of the virus. We have suffered through so much, and BIPOC communities have been hit the hardest, with minorities being disproportionately affected both in terms of health and economic strain. This reality heightens the urgency for full, fast, and fair COVID relief.
Tax March Executive Director Maura Quint released the following statement:
“Half a million people are gone. Had Republican leaders prioritized people’s lives over bailing out billionaires, countless of those lost could still be alive. No amount of legislating will bring our loved ones back, but lawmakers owe it to them and every single person who has suffered as a result of COVID to end this pandemic.
We cannot keep watching our communities die. The American people need survival checks, a $15 minimum wage, expanded unemployment benefits, universal free COVID vaccine distribution, and so much more. This country has always left low- and middle-income people—especially people of color—behind, while protecting the wealthy and powerful. Now, it’s up to a handful of Senators to stop playing games with people’s lives and start building an economy and a future that works for all.”
